When outdoors in public spaces please keep your dog on a leash. Remember to take bags with you to pick up your dog's poop and help keep our walkways and green spaces clean.
Those who want to let their dog run free can do so in the designated off-leash areas.
A dog licence is required once your pup is four months old. See below for more information.
Kitimat's Municipal Code contains all the bylaws of the District of Kitimat. Animal Control is under Part 5 Division 5.
Animal control services are handled by the Kitimat Community Humane Society (KCHS).
Issues relating to animal control, including barking dog complaints - are dealt with primarily by the Kitimat Humane Society and not the District of Kitimat Bylaw Officer.

- Acts as bylaw enforcement officer for animal control regulations
- Acts as pound-keeper at the animal shelter
- Conducts regular patrols in the community
- Impounds animals running at large
- Opens the animal shelter to the public
- Provides animal humane services in the community including lost and found, adoption and education
You can purchase a licence for your dog from KCHS or at the District of Kitimat main office on the third floor in City Centre Mall.

The Kitimat Humane Society animal adoption shelter hours of operation are:
- Monday to Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
